Marje Fletcher, plein air artist
Artist’s Statement – Biography
Marje has made the Ottawa Valley her home for most of her life …. she has travelled extensively and loves to reflect the rural scenes of Ontario and Quebec in her plein air paintings. She has taken numerous art workshops with well-known Canadian and American plein air artists including British landscape artist David Curtis.
For Marje to paint directly from nature is truly an inspiring and freeing experience. The connection to the earth … to be rooted …. heightens her sense of sight, scents and sounds. She strives in her work to say as much as possible with as little as possible – to suggest rather than to overly describe … to leave some mystery. She works primarily in oil. In her studio paintings she endeavours to translate the energy and vigour of her plein air paintings to her work. Her quest to explore space, colour and texture in landscape is always in a state of change.
