MAG Artists’ Studio Tour…. We’re Back!
The Merrickville Arts Guild would like to acknowledge that we are on the traditional territory of the Anishinabek, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee ( Iroquois), Oneida and Haudenosaunee (St Lawrence Iroquois) peoples who have lived on and cared for this land since time immemorial. We honour their history, culture, and sovereignty, and recognize their continuing connection to the land, water, and air of this region. We are grateful for their hospitality and stewardship of this land. We commit to taking action towards reconciliation, justice, and healing for all peoples who share this land.
It’s been a while, but the Merrickville Arts Guild (MAG) Studio Tour is back, at the height of Autumn for one weekend only – September 30-October 1, 10-5 pm.
For the past two years, MAG chose caution, particularly for participating artists and studio visitors, with a hiatus on in-person tours during the Covid pandemic.
Now it’s time for local artists to throw open the studio doors and welcome the public back again, as has been the tradition since 1985!
The 22 tour participants this year are eager to show and sell their work, including paintings in various media, handbound books, printmaking, pottery and ceramics, jewellery, sculpture in glass and in cloth, hand blown glass, photography, thread painting, fibre art, woodworking and woodturning. Watch handblown hot glass take shape before your eyes, or pull proofs off of a vintage printing press.
New artists to the Tour include:
- Lorraine Delangis, who creates evocative fabric sculptures perfect for home or garden
- Stephane Gendron, a woodworker who turns wood
- painter Manon Gendron
- Sherry Clairmont, a woodworker who creates fantastical birdhouses
- thread painter Lisa McShane
A beautiful 19th century village…. A lovely autumn weekend…. What better time and place to discover Merrickville’s nationally and internationally renowned artists and craftspeople in their own studios? Watch them create, discuss their processes, buy directly from them and leave with your own original work of art with its own story to tell!
