We’re excited to share our upcoming MAG Conversation topic: “Of Making Many Books There is No End”
A discussion between book artists Larry Thompson and Paul Champion Demers on the strange and not-so-gentle madness of creating beautiful hand-crafted books. They’ll discuss what it is that motivates them in their art, talk about the books arts scene and attempt to describe how they can survive such an esoteric pursuit. They will also bring samples of their work and tools of their trade.
Larry Thompson is a full-time artist, teacher and writer based in Merrickville. Under the imprint Greyweathers Press, he has been creating and printing books by hand for 15 years, with eight titles including the most recent: Ecclesiastes.
Paul Champion Demers is a professional gilder and restorer who recreates medieval wooden bindings often with illuminated or decorated drawings of fantastical beasts.
Sidecar Café on Main Street at 7:30, Thursday, September 13.
A small fee of $5 will be charged at the door. FREE for MAG members, Friends of MAG, season ticket holders and sponsors.
