About John
John Chambers is an award winning Photographer and has had a passion for photography since high school. John has an interest in all photography genres, specially wildlife and landscapes. He also does portraiture, weddings and sports photography. Like many other photogs John started on a 35mm TTL Zenit film camera ( made in Russia ) that he still has today. Learning how to process his own B&W photos in school and at home in his own darkroom. Now here we are in the digital age, his darkroom gear is long gone, his 35mm film cameras on the shelf but his passion for making images has not declined in any way in fact it has grown.
Born in Ottawa and now residing in Merrickville, Ontario John has been fortunate to have crossed paths with a few well respected professional photographers/photojournalists over the years who have tutored, critiqued and helped him along the way. In 2010 John won Wildlife Photo Of the Year – Bird Category- by Canadian Geographic Canada and his winning image was on display at the Museum of Nature in Ottawa and went on a cross Canada tour. His image was published in several editions of Canadian Geographic Magazines including a Special Edition -Best of Wildlife 2012. A few other of John’s images have also been published in regular monthly editions of Canadian Geographic, Ottawa Style Magazine, Photo Solutions, Bounder Magazine, Ottawa Citizen and a few other local newsprints. Again in 2012 one of John’s images was chosen winner of a major photo competition. The Arctic Wolf Portrait in his Wildlife gallery was named Grand Prize Winner in Photo Life Magazine’s ‘The World We Live In’ contest and to John’s surprise the image was also featured on the cover of the April/May edition of Photo Life magazine and also featured on Adventure Canada’s Blog.
John is still very active in Merrickville as a photographer, many of his images can be seen around town on display in local businesses.
