Emerging artist program

When a young artist is ready, one has to bring him into the limelight

– Placido Domingo

What is the Emerging Artist Program?

The goal of the Emerging Artists Program is to recognize, support and encourage local youth to follow their passion for the arts.

Three monetary grants will be awarded to assist with necessary purchases towards realizing a future artistic pursuit or project.  The program covers the following three areas of the arts:

    • The Visual Arts: painting and drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography and design
    • The Literary Arts: creative writing, poetry and prose
    • The Performing Arts: music, dance and drama

In addition to the grant money, MAG offers mentoring, where possible, to the winner(s) in their chosen media. For example, one mentor could advise on the business of art – marketing, shows, required tech, integrating on-line identity or brand, etc. Another could coach a photographer on the processing workflow for digital negatives. Yet another could assist with integrating drones into photography/videography. Others could provide exhibit space in their studios.

Further, the winner(s) will be given a booth, or stage time, as appropriate, at the annual Merrickville Festival of the Arts.
