Artist’s Statement – Biography
My photographs of streets capture neighbourhoods as echoes of their built environment. My photographs of landscapes include traces of the people who lived there. My photographs of buildings pay homage to the architect and builder. Each scene is a portrait caught in stone and light and line.
I began developing my eye for photography as a young man developing the black & white and colour slides for the Telecine rear projector used on the 6 o’clock news at the local television station in Terrace, BC. My interest in street photography grew as I traveled throughout Europe and Canada during my twenty-five years in the Canadian Armed Forces. Since retiring from the military I have worked in professional interactive audio-visual consulting, working in high end projection and display systems.
My portfolio has been developed while in an artists’ residency in Barcelona (2012, 2014 and 2016), and on photo shoots in Spain, Southern France (2011, 2014), and the Netherlands (2013). I work in digital format using Sony SLT-A99V, Sony DSC-RX1, and Sony DSC-100M3 cameras. For film work I use a Leica R5 35mm camera. My photographs are printed on Canson Platine Fibre Rag Photo Paper at David Andrews Digital Art and Restoration.
