About Darryl

As an artist, I find my deepest connection with natural products—specifically in wood. My sculptures emerge from the marriage between material and imagination. Working primarily with cottonwood and basswood. I breathe life into whimsical faerie houses and other structures.

My creative process is intuitive: the wood guides my hands and speaks to me in its own silent language revealing the potential of what it can become. Each project begins with this conversation, a collaboration that determines the subject to be brought forth.

My sculptures feature towering roofs, a profusion of windows, and intricate staircases and balconies. These architectural elements invite curiosity and exploration, mirroring the fantastical essence present in my work.

The inspiration for my art flows directly from the unique shapes of the natural materials I choose to work with. This organic motivation ensures that each piece is a harmonious extension of its original form, inherently tied to the character and voice of the wood.

What truly distinguishes my art is the incorporation of backlit windows, open doors and strategic cutaways. By playing with light and shadow, I invite onlookers to peer inside, encouraging them to explore beyond the surface and engage with the deeper stories each sculpture holds. Through these techniques, I transform raw material into gateways to the imagination, inviting all who encounter my work to step into a world of wonder and possibility.
