When the topic of Canadian art is discussed, generations of Canadians refer to Tom Thompson and the Group of Seven. Their art has given us all an appreciation of the Canadian landscape and a sense of Canadian identity.
The publishing company Sampson Matthews developed silk screens of their art and distributed them to schools, libraries, and even army barracks during the Second War. (These same silk screens have become sought after today.)
Join us as we welcome our special guest, Reinder Kuntz, for the evening as he discusses the McMichael Gallery’s gift of art to Canada, A. Y. Jackson and the Sampson Matthew’s Silk Screen Project, and the marketing of Art by Canadian Artists.
Reinder Kuntz will be bringing a sample of his collection of silk screens for all to view. An evening not to be missed!
This event is FREE for current MAG Members and Friends of MAG. A small fee of $5.00 will be charged at the door for non-members.
Join us in the “Club Room” on the main floor of the Merrickville Legion on Thursday September 12, 2024. The talk starts at 7:30 PM; doors open at 7:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you there!
