MAG ConversationsHave you ever been fascinated  by all of the building possibilities that begin with a simple piece of wood? There are so many ranging from intricate carvings to boat building. Working with wood can be both challenging and rewarding. The September speaker’s series delves into the art of wooden boat building from the points of view of both a seasoned woodworker and a novice.

Our two speakers this month are Jim Waldie who has been boat building for many years using a variety of techniques and materials and Blair Haddock who is new to the craft of boat building. Blair, who had never put his hand to building a wooden boat, worked with Jim over the winter to build two hybrid seventeen foot kayaks with stitch and glue hulls and cedar strip decks.

The end products are stunning and will be on display along with some tools and materials involved in the building process.

Join us in the “Club Room” on the main floor of the Merrickville Legion along with moderator Nick Previsich on September 21 for a discussion on the highs and lows of this unique art form. The talk starts at 7:30 PM; doors open at 7:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you there!

Check our group Facebook page for any last-minute adjustments.

A small fee of $5.00 will be charged at the door for non-members. This event is FREE for current members of MAG.
