Jayne Couch Molony
Painter, oils
About Jayne
Classically trained in oil painting, Jayne’s artistic journey has taken her across continents and creative disciplines. She began her postsecondary studies with a residency award and scholarship at the Banff Centre of Fine Arts, followed by a scholarship to the Paris Academy/ City University of Paris, France. There, she deepened her practice with life drawing at the renowned Ecole des Beaux-Arts, before concluding her formal training with a scholarship to Parsons School of Design in New York city.
After returning to her hometown of Toronto, Jayne embarked on a successful career in the film and television, leading art departments across Canada and the United States. Her eye for composition, detail, and atmosphere – sharpened through years of production design – continues to inform her painterly approach.
Over the past decade, Jayne has returned full-time to her studio practice, devoting herself to drawing and oil painting. Her work explores the quiet complexities of fabric, the symbolic tension of knots and the emotional architecture of bows – rendered with a sensuous command of paint and an enduring reverence for form.
Jayne paints from her studio in a decommissioned 1855 Methodist church, located in a tiny helmet founded in 1793 on an island in the Rideau Canal. Her work is held in private collections and exhibited thought Canada, the United States, Ireland and Wales.
